Announcing the Launch of
My Fine Art Prints
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: my Fine Art Prints are now officially available! This project has been a long time in the making, a dream I’ve nurtured for many years. Until now, I was not in a position to fully embrace this genre, but I’m delighted to say that the wait has been worth it.
Over the past year, I dedicated myself to refining my craft. I immersed myself in training to better understand the nuances of lighting and post-production techniques. While my background as a digital artist is extensive, most of my work has been designed for screens rather than print. This presented a unique set of challenges. Printed artwork absorbs ink, unlike screens, which project light, often resulting in darker outputs. My art leans heavily on moody atmospheres, so I had to master the art of calibrating my images for print to ensure they look their absolute best.
After this journey of learning and experimentation, I am incredibly proud to introduce this new dimension to my work. My collection of fine art prints centred around samurai art beautifully complements the other elements of my business: samurai books and armour.
Quality has been my guiding principle throughout this process. I chose to work exclusively with the finest materials to produce truly exceptional pieces. Each work is printed on French rag paper, using state-of-the-art Giclée printing techniques. The accredited lab I partner with ensures a slower, more meticulous process, resulting in prints that often surpass the quality of many commercial galleries.
Every piece in the collection is a signed and numbered limited edition, with no more than 50 of each produced. I have also made a conscious decision to price these works reasonably, as it brings me immense joy to think of them adorning the walls of those who appreciate the dedication and passion poured into their creation.
This launch is more than just the debut of a product; it’s the culmination of a journey, a blending of tradition, and a chance to share something significant. I hope these prints bring your space as much inspiration and beauty as they have brought to my artistic journey.
Inspiration and Equipment
My inspiration comes from various sources, including the iconic chanbara movies of the mid-20th century. These films have always captivated me with their storytelling and visual style. I’m also profoundly influenced by the work of Western photographers who visited Japan during the Meiji period. Felice Beato, in particular, has been a significant inspiration. His photography offers an incredible window into that era, and my work pays homage to the remarkable insights he captured.
For those curious about the tools I use to bring my vision to life, here’s my current setup:
– Camera: Hasselblad X2D 100c Medium Format
– Lenses: Hasselblad 55v and 38v
– Lighting: Profoto B1
– Software: Focus, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom
